A Call to Prayer

for Missing, Exploited, and Trafficked Children

Day 9

Thank you for joining Day 9 of the 10-day prayer initiative for missing, exploited, and trafficked children. The focus of this day centers on praying that our representatives and government officials will be guided by the Holy Spirit in wisdom and righteousness that our communities may become more and more reflective of the Kingdom of God, that justice may be upheld, and that those in need may live in peace and safety.

Each day in this initiative includes Scriptures upon which to read and reflect, a basic discussion regarding the intention of the prayer topic, and a prayer that is to simply serve as a guide or starting point; what matters most is that we are directed by Biblical truth, lean into further intimacy with the heart of God, and be lead by the Spirit.

Prayers for the Government to be Guided in Wisdom

When government is resolutely focused on establishing and maintaining equal justice under the law with bridled power and authority, it is a blessing to everyone. Because the authority of government has been instituted by God, government best serves the community when each representative seeks to replicate the impartial and merciful pursuit of justice demonstrated by the King of kings. Thriving nations are built by leaders who are in fervent pursuit of Kingdom righteousness. We, the Church, are called to pray for our leaders. We should pray for the wellbeing of our representatives. We should pray that the Lord will guide our leaders in wisdom and righteousness. We should pray that the Spirit will convict where needed and embolden where necessary. And, while the call for each of us is to live personal lives of ever flowing righteousness, we should pray that our government establishes justice that rolls down through our communities like a river. This is particularly important in the efforts to find missing kids, combat trafficking, and end the illicit industry of sexual exploitation; factual, researched-guided, and effective legislation is required to enable law enforcement to act lawfully and efficiently, to ensure rights and protections to vulnerable children, and to ensure the conviction of vile perpetrators. We must pray that our representatives are led by Christ to fearlessly represent the Kingdom of God.

Prayer

Lord, let Your Holy Spirit be present and known in the offices, committees, and hearings of our government officials. Guide our representatives in wisdom and give them the courage to argue for, vote for, and advocate for legislation and policies that establish justice for vulnerable kids. Move in the lives of our government officials: our governor, representatives, senators, president, and all those in a position of authority. Lead them into Your eternal truth that they may be established on the Rock and not falter or sway when tested. God, uplift Your mighty name in the House of Representatives, Senate, and Governor’s Office. Bless, embolden, and protect those in a position authority who are called by Your name. 

Father, give our leaders the wisdom to discern and reject lobbyist groups that would seek to make a mockery of justice and the rule of law. Lead them in truth that they may not be distracted or swayed by lies. Amen.

“Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you have no fear of the one who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval, for he is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God’s wrath on the wrongdoer.” Romans 13:1-4
